- Greenhouse: On Friday morning we used all of our senses to explore our greenhouse and watered many of the plants. We enjoyed harvesting and tasting some ripe tomatoes, radish greens, and beets!
- Armed Forces Day: Tomorrow, May 18th is Armed Forces Day. This holiday honors all of the men and women who serve in the United States' Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and the Reserves.
*Reminders and Upcoming Events:
- Scholastic Book Orders: Book orders are due next Wednesday, May 22nd.
- Library Books: School library books are due by next Friday, May 24th.
- ReadyGEN Spelling Words: Your child will be assessed on his/her current list of spelling words next Friday, May 24th. We have been working on some spelling word activities at school. Your child should also be doing some practice activities with his/her spelling words at home.
- Box-Tops: Please send Box-Tops to school with your child to help our PTO earn additional funds. Each Box-Top is worth ten cents. Our current PTO Box-Top classroom collection ends next Friday, May 24th.
- Early Release/Records Day: Students will be dismissed early at 11:40 a.m. next Friday, May 24th.
*Students will still be eating their fruit or vegetable snacks at school.
- No School/Memorial Day: We do not have school on Monday, May 27th in honor of Memorial Day.
- Attendance Reminder: If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the school's attendance line and report his/her absence at 224-765-3505.
- Hand Wipes Update: Our class is still running low on hand wipes. If possible, please send some antibacterial hand wipes to school with your child. “Wet Ones” hand wipes is a recommended brand to help limit the spread of germs. Thanks for your continued help and support!

- Heller Nature Center Visit: Thanks to our supportive PTO, the first grade classes will be going to Heller Nature Center for a morning lesson to enhance our life science studies about plants and animals on Thursday, June 6th. We will be staying together as a whole class. Unfortunately, chaperones will not be needed since we are only having one brief guided lesson with a naturalist and teacher, instead of a full field trip day. Thank you for your understanding!
- Field Day: We will be participating in some fun outdoor Field Day activities in the morning on Tuesday, June 11th. Students will need to wear gym shoes with socks, comfortable clothes, and sunscreen. Please remind your child to bring a water bottle labeled with full name and 1V.
- Early Dismissal: Students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11th.
