- Habitats: Places where animals and plants live that provide the necessary food, water, and shelter that are needed for survival.
- Animal Adaptations: “Talk Like a Dolphin”
- Plants: Our rye grass and alfalfa plants have continued to grow even taller.
- Greenhouse: On Friday morning we went to the greenhouse. We harvested and tasted some yummy mixed lettuce, broccoli rabe, and basil. We also made some amazing growth observations in the outside garden area, using neat magnifying lenses and recorded these new findings in our plant journals.

- Griffin’s Tale Assembly: Thanks to our wonderful PTO, we had the fantastic opportunity to attend a very exciting, creative assembly on Friday afternoon. Funny stories and songs were performed by acting students from Northwestern University. A few of the stories were even written by students at Indian Trail!
*Reminders and Upcoming Events
- Heller Nature Center Visit: Thanks to our supportive PTO, the first grade classes will be going to Heller Nature Center for a morning lesson to enhance our life science studies about plants and animals next Tuesday, June 5th.
*All students must dress for the outdoor weather, wearing long pants, socks, shoes/boots, sunscreen, and insect repellant. We will be outside for the entire time. Thanks!
- Field Day: We will be participating in some fun outdoor Field Day activities in the morning next Thursday, June 7th.
*Students will need to wear gym shoes with socks, comfortable clothes, and sunscreen. They also need to bring a water bottle labeled with full name and 1V.
- Early Dismissal: Students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. next Thursday, June 7th.
*Students will still be eating their fruit or vegetable snacks & lunches at school.
- Last Day/Early Dismissal: Students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. next Friday, June 8th, on our last day of first grade together.
*Students will still be eating their fruit or vegetable snacks & lunches at school.
- Used School Supply Collection: Summer school is in need of school supplies again this year. Please make sure your child knows if you would like him/her to bring his/her school supplies home next week or if he/she should donate them for summer school.
- Hand Wipes and Tissues Update: Thank you to the Kach family for donating hand wipes, tissues, and disinfectant wipes to our class this week. We really appreciate your continued help and support!
