Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for a wonderful school year in first grade! I have really enjoyed working with your children. They have become successful readers, expressive writers, strategic mathematicians, and inquisitive scientists/researchers. They have developed good work and listening skills. This year could not have been as successful without continued encouragement, help, and support at home. We have learned a lot and grown throughout the school year. I will really miss working with your children!
I would like to thank you for all of your support, assistance, and time throughout the school year. We have had fantastic room parents, Mrs. Kach and Mrs. Schmanski, who helped organize and plan both enjoyable celebrations with assistance from additional helpful volunteers. I would also like to thank all the dedicated parents who have volunteered and helped with all of the different PTO sponsored school activities.
Please continue to read at home with your child daily. We have had a lot of enjoyment discussing quality literature in class and your child will have much that he/she can share with you. I strongly encourage participation in the summer reading program at the Highland Park Public Library. It has wonderful opportunities and incentives for continued reading growth and development! Writing notes, postcards, letters, a journal, emails, texts, picture captions, grocery lists, a diary, or creative stories at home could be fun. It would also be beneficial for your child to continue practicing addition and subtraction math equations, telling time, using number patterns, measuring, counting money, problem solving math story problems, playing math games, etc. Exploring and observing nature as a scientist would be great too. Visiting forest preserves, parks, zoos, museums, and historical landmarks could be exciting as well.
I will be teaching first grade again next year in the same classroom. Please take care and feel free to stop by to say hello. Have an exciting, fun filled summer with your family and friends!
Sincerely,
Heidi VanderVere
