*Homework Responsibilities
- 'Words Their Way' Word Study Homework: Students have different Word Sort words to study, practice, and learn each week. They will usually get their Word Sort lists on Mondays and will have 'word study' homework Mondays through Thursdays, with check-up assessments on Fridays. Daily homework activities can be found on our Blog under Weekly Practice Resources on the toolbar in Words Their Way. - Daily News Journal Writing: Please remember to continue to have your child complete, read, share, and discuss his/her Daily News Journal writing page and colored illustration each day. After he/she reads, shares, and discusses information about his/her school day, please initial the page. If your child’s Daily News journal is not finished, please have your child complete it at home for homework.
- Reading Homework Books: Next week your child will begin bringing homework books home to read at his/her independent reading level. Homework books will come home each day to help your child practice reinforcing his/her reading strategies and skills. These books should be easy for your child to read, practicing good reading accuracy, fluency, and appropriate expression. Please have your child read out loud to you each night. Then ask him/her some comprehension questions and discuss the book. Enjoy sharing these books together! If the book comes with word cards, please have your child read the word cards first, next read and discuss the book, and then reread the word cards again for a second time. The books and cards should be returned in the plastic bag the next day, so your child can exchange them for a new book and cards. If your child is reading a longer book without word cards, please have your child read out loud from the book and discuss their reading each day until he/she finishes it.
